British acting great Emma Thompson has revealed that she was once asked out on a date by *sigh* U.S. President Donald Trump, a decision she now regrets.

During an interview with Swedish news outlet SVT, Thompson revealed that, back in the late nineties, when she was filming Primary Colors with John Travolta, the 70-year-old President invited her to stay at Trump Tower and have dinner with him.

During her appearance on the Swedish talk show, Thompson said that she was surprised when the phone in her trailer rang because “it never did”.

She further gave details of the how the conversation went once she picked up the phone, saying, “"I lift up the phone… ‘Hi, it’s Donald Trump here'," the mum of two said, impersonating Trump.  "I said, ‘Really? Can I help you?’ and he said, ‘Yeah, I just, you know, I wondered if I could offer you some accommodation in one of my Trump Towers. They’re really comfortable’”.

On questioning why he had called her, Trump also said, “‘Well, you know, I think we would get on very well. Maybe we could have dinner sometime'”.

Upon hearing this from a man she has never met before, despite it being Donald Trump, Thompson responded with, “'Okay, well, I’ll get back to you! Thank you so much for ringing'", and subsequently never did, something she now things was a mistake, despite going through a divorce at the time from Kenneth Branagh, cheekily saying, “think of the stories”.

And upon hearing this story, the host and another female guest chimed in by saying, “You could have been the first lady” and “You could have stopped him”.

But even with that idea in mind, and oh what an idea it is, who knows if it could have lasted or stopped him in his tracks.
