Feeling in need of a break from your work or your studies, but not sure on the destination? Beat those winter blues and consider these top five places to visit in Victoria during the coldest and gloomiest time of the year. No matter which place you decide to visit, you’ll be left feeling refreshed and completely fulfilled.

  1. Mt. Buller

A three hour drive from Melbourne will certainly be worth it, especially with the endless skiing and snow activities available. There are ski slopes to suit all ages and levels of skiing experience from the Bourke Street beginner run to the advanced black runs such as the Federation and the Bull Run. Go between July and mid-September to ski or snowboard under the stars. If skiing isn’t your forte, jump on the scenic chairlift and absorb the breathtaking view. You can also take a hike to the top of Mt. Buller in snow-shoes, or why not challenge yourself to the 9km cross-country trails which looks out over Mt. Stirling and the Bluff.

  1. Mornington Peninsula

It doesn’t have to be a hot summer’s day for you to enjoy a winter holiday at the Mornington Peninsula. This is the perfect place for a long weekend getaway for both couples and families. There are several wineries and restaurants to choose from as well as the famous Peninsula Hot Springs. If you feel like heading out earlier, be sure to check out the Winter Wine Weekend on the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

  1. Hepburn Springs

Found in the heart of Australia’s ‘Spa Country’ near Daylesford, Hepburn Springs is a perfect winter’s destination for young couples and newlyweds who wish to relax and unwind. There are a number of accommodations to choose from such as the Saltus and Bella Vista Villas. These are the best places to stay if you want to use the spa or book in a massage.

  1. Halls Gap

Located in the Grampians, Halls Gap is best suited to families and couples looking to seek an adventure. From bushwalking to rock climbing and McKenzie Falls, there are a number of outdoor activities and nature places to visit. Halls Gap Zoo is a must for those with children or any animal lover. Make sure to cosy up next to an open fire in the evening and enjoy some marshmallow treats.

  1. Mt. Dandenong

This is the perfect winter’s holiday for couples wanting a quiet romantic getaway. It is only 35km from Melbourne’s Central Business District, so you shouldn’t have to fill up the car more than once. The options of things to do at Mt. Dandenong are endless. You can take a stroll at one of the gardens; ride on the Puffing Billy train; visit some of the nearby towns such as Emerald, Olinda and Monbulk; shop at the large range of art studios and gift shops; book a massage; or relax in front of an open fire at one of the pubs.
