CrowdInk had the opportunity to sit down with Amit Bhandari, Founder of Continuous Excellence to learn about how the company started, a few of the challenges the business faced, and how they’re continuing to grow at such an incredible pace.

CrowdInk: How did Continuous Excellence come about?

Amit Bhandari: Continuous Excellence was founded in March 2014. I had worked in Accenture Reserve, a really driven firm as an experienced senior manager for years. I had thought about moving on and starting something of my own. I spent almost a year thinking about that, but there was a sickness in my family which had to push the decision to move back.

In hindsight, I really should have made the move earlier, but when I finally did, the business just took off.

CI: What is the core of the business?

AB: We’re a diversified technology company. The core of the business is the website. We have two business models. The first is to aid start-ups in mining, or developing and implementing, technology. The second is that we aid in acquiring funds for start-ups through equity.

We have an offshore development team as well.  Everything a start-up requires to really get going – we provide that. Our first step is finding that solution definition upfront. What are your requirements? What’s the business architecture? Is it agile, flexible? Continuous Excellence provides start-ups with both the services they need to get going and the equity to grow.

CI: What has been your biggest challenge to date?

AB: When you’re creating that new brand, that fresh name, I found that my corporate network was not of immense use. It was a whole new network. As far as getting the word out went, our delivery was good, but streamlining sales was a little challenging. We’re always maximising our capability to find new clients. That’s going to continue to challenge Continuous Excellence – and it’s a challenge we embrace wholeheartedly.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that company culture is so essential. The people you work with, potential clients, and existing clients need to like you. We’re in the business of people, everyone is. You can’t scale without the right fit. Recruitment is so essential. Make sure your team is balanced. They need to be highly skilled, but they also need to be able to work as a unit. Build the right team and the rest will fall into place.

CI: Do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

AB: Go as lean as you can in the beginning. Be very cost efficient. Look at the costs of product development, marketing, and sales. And expect challenges. There will be unforeseen obstacles in all of the above categories. Be sure to provide product development support and marketing help to your clients and always think outside of the box. Those new solutions to common start-up issues are what is going to make or break your business. Think creatively to bring in revenue, and it will succeed.
