If you were a child in Australia, odds are you had the delightful experience of indulging in a number of sugar filled, ridiculously unhealthy treats and snacks when attending a friend’s birthday party.

These party favours were around long before we started replacing them with beer, wine and cheese.

Freddo Frog Ice Cream Cake

First on the list, but the last to be brought out at the party. The Freddo Frog cake is the go-to option for a cheap and successful birthday cake. The best part was counting how many Freddo you found in your slice. Not really sure why they went out of style after adolescence though because they’re fab.

Fairy Bread

Fairy bread is the joke of all snack foods. It is sprinkles, butter and bread. It’s a useless creation. But for some reason we all love it.

Frog in Pond

I’m guessing this is their name because that’s what this lazy invention seems to be imitating. It’s a Freddo frog in a cup of jelly. What else can you say about it.

Party Pies

Meat pies are disgusting, but once you make it a quarter of the size, they’re somehow better and completely acceptable to serve to children. For some extra fun try the party mix which includes mini sausage rolls – nutritional!

Chocolate crackles

What is with the obsession with congealing cereals and calling it a party treat? Literally mix up your favourite cereal with a binder (usually Copha) and put it in a bright paper cupcake mould.

Those God Damn Whistle Lollipops

Or Melody Pops, apparently. Let’s give a bunch of hyperactive children a sugary lolly that also makes an obnoxious whistling sound! Someone must have really wanted to annoy parents when they invented this thing.
