Metabolically Messed Up

I want to tell you a little story. About my journey and me. Why?! Because I want you to know that I know how you feel. But I also want you to understand what metabolism is and why it plays such a crucial role in your journey.

Many, many years ago I was not a picture of good health. Quite the opposite in fact: I was struggling to shift a few kilos, or maybe close to 10. With a damaged and sluggish metabolism I was trying in vain to shift body fat. I was working too hard, eating too little, whilst I watched everyone around me lose weight easily, and I was left behind.

I was tired, I was constantly getting sick and I was uncomfortable in my own skin.  My hormones were imbalanced and I felt rubbish. I was eating diet food and was watching my calories like a hawk, but one slip up and I would be back where I started. I was exhausted.

I was metabolically messed up.

Metabolically Messed Up

Now when I talk about metabolically messed up, what do I mean? People talk about metabolism like it’s a “thing”, it’s not. Like you can hold a metabolism in your hands, you can’t. We’ve heard the hype: we must make our metabolism “stronger”. People say ‘Oh she has a good metabolism; she can eat what she likes because she’s got a strong metabolism’. Your metabolism is not a singular thing; it is instead a collection of components responsible for a synergy of events. When your gut flora is perfect your immune system is supported, when you weight train you increase anabolic hormones (which is great by the way!), when you eat healthy foods and avoid toxins you support the liver and detox pathways, when you lose body fat and control insulin response, your own hormones start to stabilize, in return, you get healthier, stronger, leaner, and fitter.

You sleep better, you have more energy, you lose weight and maintain it easily, and you can eat what you want when you want it (within reason of course!).  When your hormones are balanced and everything is working well. THAT IS A GOOD METABOLISM. Now, do YOU feel like that? No? So, you see, many of us are walking around metabolically messed up and don’t even realize it.

Reading this you may have been where I was, hell you may have even been worse. Or maybe you are nowhere near it, maybe you’re just a couple of kilos over weight.

But are you happy? Do you FEEL amazing? Honestly? (You can say, I won’t tell anyone!). But the take home message here is that if you love your metabolism, it will love you right back, just like mine did in the end.

If you are feeling metabolically messed up, then we have some work to do. And I’m here for you. Head over to http://pennylomas.com.au/ for more info and to contact me.
